Monoprints What is a Monoprint? Monoprints are printed paintings. It is a printimaking process in which an image, pattern, or color composition painted directly onto a plexiglass plate is transferred, typically by using a printing press, onto a sheet of printmaking paper. The process results in a single, unique impression that is painterly in feel yet has the quality of a print. Spontaneity and experimentation are the overriding features of monoprints. The characteristic of this method is that no two prints are alike which is different than an edition such as a lithograph or etching. The appeal of the monoprint lies in the unique translucency that creates a quality of light very different from a painting on paper or a print. |
